SAS International invests in employee development

27th September 2011

SAS International has introduced the STEP programme; a series of skills development training initiatives for employees at its manufacturing facility in Bridgend, Wales.

Employees will have the opportunity to undergo a series of continuous improvement training programmes to further develop skills as well as knowledge of the industry and the whole manufacturing process.

This investment in staff is key to self development and in turn will help sustained business performance to ensure customers are provided with products, on time and to the highest quality standard.

Mark McElhinney at SAS International commented: “The next phase of our training programme is the introduction of tools and techniques to achieve a culture of LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement throughout the organisation.

“As a result of the training programmes implemented we predict to see considerable savings and improvements in terms of cost reductions driven by employee groups, improvements to product quality, process improvements and improved delivery and reduced downtime.”

Also being implemented are specific quality related and technical training courses, including ISO Auditor, Six Sigma, various manufacturing software, as well as a programme of Health and Safety training providing ongoing guidance.

SAS International firmly believes that it is critical to the success of both the planning and delivery of training and development activities that resources invested are monitored and the outcomes achieved are measured. The company uses its evaluation findings for future business planning and the planning of continued investment in staff training and development.
